HackYourFuture Belgium

What Is HackYourFuture?

Refugees often experience challenges in finding a suitable job to apply and further develop their skills. Yet, the number of unfilled vacancies in the IT sector is increasing at fast pace.

HackYourFuture was founded in 2015 in Amsterdam, with the aim to enable refugees to build digital skills for a career in web development, facilitate the integration of newcomers, and address the shortage of qualified workforce in the IT sector. Since 2015, HackYourFuture coding schools have also opened in Copenhagen and Malmö.

On 20 May 2018, HackYourFuture Belgium launched its first class in Belgium with 13 highly motivated students at BeCentral, the digital campus in Brussels. On 2 September 2018, a second class started with 14 students.

Every 3 months starts a new class with 15 students. Our next class will start on 13 January 2019. Applications are open!

Our Mission

Empower refugees by teaching them the necessary skills for a career in software development.

Our Programme

Our 6 months course is divided into 8 modules of 3 weeks each, with the exception of the final project which takes 6 weeks.

Our Training

Every Sunday volunteer-coaches and students meet at BeCentral in Brussels for in-person classes. Students are supported online with their homework during the week.

Our programme is almost coming to an end for our first class! 10 students are about to start the last project module and will graduate at the beginning of December. On Wednesday 12 December 2018 from 18 until 21 PM, we will organize a graduation ceremony where the students will proudly present their end projects and you can meet them all in person.

Would you like to find out what our students have learnt over the last 6 months or are you simply looking for new talent to join your team? We hope to see you all at our graduation event.

Want to hire one of our graduates?

The students are trained to perform well as junior web developers in a modern IT team, write clean code, and think like problem solvers.
Our graduates are eager to start their career as developers. Drop us an email at contact@hackyourfuture.be and tell us about your hiring needs.

Our six months course is divided into eight modules which cover programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node, Databasing in MySQL/MongoDB and React. However, what we value most is that our students learn how to think as a programmer, how to solve problems, and how to manage a project. This fundamental knowledge prepares our students for their first job as a web developer.

We teach motivated refugees who want to start their career in web development. The course is open to anyone staying in Belgium. Women are strongly recommended to apply.

You have to be very motivated to start a career in programming.

You have to speak English at an intermediate level.

You have to study around 25 hours per week to keep up with our program.

We accept students from all over Belgium and we cover transportation costs.

We provide laptops for students that don't have their own during the training.
